Open Culinary

  1. Please mail your entry list, together with fees - see entry blank for costs - to the Fair Office by July 1. All entries may be entered on Tuesday evening, 6 to 8 p.m., or Wednesday 7 to 9 a.m. It will be possible to bring in an item not entered in advance. Pick up tags in the Fair Secretary's office.
  2. All entry tags should be firmly attached to exhibits to avoid errors and for proper judging.
  3. Exhibitors are limited to one entry in each class. All articles must be the work of the exhibitor and completed since last county fair.
  4. No articles will be accepted for premiums unless listed in this fair book.
  5. All canned goods, jams, jellies and preserves must have been canned since last county fair and exhibited in standard jars no larger than quart. RINGS OF 2 PIECE LIDS should be loose enough to be easily opened by the judge on jams, jellies, preserves and pickles. NOTHING ELSE WILL BE OPENED.
  6. All cakes are to be unfrosted and placed on heavy cardboard covered with white paper or foil. Cardboard must be on inch larger than pan in which product was baked. All loaf cakes must be 8x8 and top side up. Products which contain flour as a basic ingredient are acceptable. Items that require refrigeration like cream fillings, cream pies, cheeses, custards, etc. will not be accepted, judged or displayed. Food products must be unquestionably safe to eat when they are entered, whether tasted or not.
  7. A plate of cookies or candy and rolls shall consist of three and should be displayed on paper plates.
  8. Package of mixes must not be used.
  9. Yeast bread should be baked in standard size pans and displayed on heavy cardboard an inch larger than loaf with tag attached. Bread should be at least 24 hours old when judged.
  10. Quick breads should be baked in appropriate size pans. (Approximately 4x5x10 or 7 1/2x3 1/2x 2 1/4).
  11. If exhibit is unusual we need a card explaining the usage of the spice, decorations, etc.
    All baked goods must be placed in plastic bags and may be fastened with a twistie, but not sealed. All but ONE slice of all baked goods may be taken home AFTER JUDGING IS COMPLETED. Please bring bags or containers to take these home in.
  12. All exhibits must remain in place until 6 p.m., Sunday. Exhibits may be removed from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday.
  13. The judge will select Sweepstakes Winner from blue ribbon winners.
  14. Entries are open to all residents of Hardin and SURROUNDING counties.
