Open Art

  1. Please mail your entry list, together with fees - see entry blank for costs - to the Fair Office by July 1. All entries may be entered on Tuesday evening, 6 to 8 p.m., or Wednesday 7 to 9 a.m. It will be possible to bring in an item not entered in advance. Pick up tags in the Fair Secretary's office.
  2. Entries are open to all residents of Hardin and adjoining counties.
  3. All work should be original, not a kit.
  4. Exhibitors may show one entry in each class.
  5. All artwork must be suitably framed or finished and READY TO HANG.  5" x 7" or larger.  
  6. All photographs must be mounted or matted.  NO GLASS. Finished work must be 5" x 7" or larger.  Photos must be 4" x 6" or larger.
  7. All exhibits must remain on display until 6 p.m., Sunday. They must be removed from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday night only.
  8. An item entered once is ineligible to be entered again.
  9. The judge shall award premiums according to merit in each class.  
  10. Class O- Display of work Non Judged.

Work will be judged on: 
Planning, idea expressed......................30
Technical Craftsmanship.......................40
Composition.........................................10
Final preparation and framing/matting.....10
How it displays in a normal setting.........10

In general the various visual art categories, including different modes of drawing and painting, graphic arts, graphic design, as well as photography and are judged on technical merit of craftsmanship, how well they express an idea, how well the image is composed and how readily it could be hung or placed in a normal setting.  Keep in mind, visual arts are very subjective and the best guide is to produce some work of value to yourself after the competition is finished.

Additional class for any age – Hardin County Fair Art.  This has to be something drawn or created out of material or subject within the fairgrounds.  It will be judged on the last day of the fair by the Fairboard.  Any winners may be used in future advertising for the Hardin County Fair.  Bring your entries to the Fair Office.
